Car Cleaning Tips to Keep Your Car Fresh
Our cars are our personality statements and maintaining them well not only reflects well on ourselves but it also brings pleasure. So here are a few ways you can keep your car fresh!
Air Filters, Purifiers and Ionizers
There are three types of purifiers in your car: engine air filters, cabin air filter, ionisers, and ozone generators.
Engine air filters: These filter the air that goes into your engine for the purposes of combustion. They don’t have anything to do with the air quality inside your passenger compartment.
Cabin air filters: These filter the air that comes into your car when you have the heating, ventilation, and air conditioning (HVAC) system set to draw in fresh air. They may also filter air that is recirculated.
Ionisers: These are electronic devices that are typically plugged into the cigarette lighter socket. They operate on the principle of ionising pollutants and causing them to stick to surfaces where you won’t be able to inhale them.
Ozone generators: These devices actually generate ozone, which can effectively destroy the molecular structure of pollutants and bad aromas.
Buying a car air purifier
A car cabin is vulnerable to dust and debris due to constant opening and closing of doors and windows. Also, the cabin air can get polluted from the gases and dust that come through the air vents of the car. A car air purifier comes with special air filters that remove dust, smoke, and odours permanently from your car’s cabin, leaving it smelling fresh and clean.
Get a cup holder liner
Drips and spills can leave your car’s dashboard and interiors sticky and smelly. Using a liner for your cup holders will prevent the liquid spills from dirtying your car’s upholstery.
Keeping food contained
It’s not advisable to eat inside your car, but if you do, try to keep the food contained inside the packaging to minimize crumbs from spoiling your car’s matting. Also, never leave leftover food or containers inside your car, as food spoils quickly and a stench may develop in the cabin.
If your car already has an enduring unclean smell, buy a car air purifier with an activated carbon filter to remove it.
Knocking your shoes clean
The simple exercise of knocking your shoes clean before you enter the car’s cabin can prevent a ton of dust and debris from entering your beloved car, especially if you are traversing through muddy conditions all the time.
All of the same pollutants and allergens you find outside are present inside your car as well, in addition to chemicals and particulates that come from the car itself. So, an air purifier is a good investment to keep air clean and fresh in your car.
Another air quality issue that a lot of people have to deal with involves lingering odours from tobacco and other sources. Purifiers and ionisers usually won’t help with this type of problem, but you may have some luck with adsorbents or ozone generators.
